Build Spanish phonemic awareness in Spanish with Cuántas Sílabas: La Garra! This interactive phonological awareness/conciencia fonológica activity game helps students practice segmenting phonemes/ segmentación de fonemas in Spanish while expanding their vocabulary with initial sounds, S, N, L, T. 
 
NOTE: This activity is already included in Pa'Lante. 
 
Students are shown a picture, say the word in Spanish, and break it apart into individual fonemas. When they get it right, La Garra scoops up a stuffed animal as their prize, and they can keep track of their points! The game uses PowerPoint macros to randomize each round so it’s never the same twice, keeping students engaged and reinforcing essential literacy skills.
 
This resource is aligned to biliteracy practices and perfect for dual language and bilingual classrooms. Whether you're teaching whole group,  intervention, or centers (if you are forced to), this low-prep activity makes Spanish phonemic awareness both fun and and aligned to biliteracy.
